First Sunday Results: Wolfmans and Big Daddy

Pizza: Wolfmans is tucked into the shopping center across the street and we often forget about their great pizza. The Middle School chose this as their first stop. The Bar-B-Que pizza got extra points for being unique and rich with flavor. Wolfmans is convienent, pizza is good...but we will see how it compares this week to Hawthornes! Wolfmans.final score: 7.

Burger: Big Daddy has to be the place to start so that all other burgers can be compared. The number of burgers you can get is sure to meet anyone's creative palatte. The Sam-I-Am burger comes with a pesto sauce, fried egg and Ham...and is incredible. We had one latecomer who quickly said can I get one with Blue Cheese and maybe Bacon...and.....well, really whatever they wanted. Another got just a regular old cheeseburger, but added Queso! The burgers were thick, seasoned well and with so many toppings.....this has to be the best. However, we have two other stops that we will make! We were disappointed to find out that Snoops is closed on Sunday's, so this week it is Providence sundries. Big Daddy Burger Final Score: 9

We had another full day yesterday

One group put in a rail for an ederly man and put down a carpet. Another group scraped paint of the outside of a home and began painting and another group planted flowers, mowed lawns, and improved the yard of a homeowner in need. Last night we had a fellowship party with all the homeowners. We enjoyed worship together and the founder of the Pittsburgh Project spoke - the Pit Project has been running for 25 years! This is our last work day and this evening we will be having a party in the park with pizza, games and kayaking. Our young people have been getting along extremely well! It is a blessing to see our middle and senior high students communicate like brothers and sisters.

Good Times with Laura Miles and Walker Simas

When we got here, both of us had the goal of be-freinding a neighbor child. On our first day, Shayla adn her dog Penny were outside playing together. We both finished eating adn walked over to visit with them. We got to talking and shayla is the youngest of two older brothers just like Laura. She told Walker how oldest brother tried out to play and the NFL and was waiting for a call. Shayla told us about her family and what it was like to live in Pittsburgh. We will never forget the way Shayla's face lit up when we went over on that first day. We continued visiting her throughout the week and we got really close. Shayla is one of the sweetest girls we have met. We had so much fun getting to know her and playing with Penny. Shayla has had a positive effect on our lives and we will always remember the good times.

Elaine and Delores by Caroline Roddey

This week my team, TSB (Team Straight Backwards) was working at Elaine Holloway and Dolores Leak's homes. We did mostly yardwork, but today we are painting Ms. Holloways porch and steps and doing some cement patching. OUr team is: Laura Miles, Caroline Roddey, Stephen Heeseman and Walker Simas. We are an excited group, but we worked hard and got everything done. While we were on a snack break, Ms. Holloway would tell us stories about how she was a foster grandparent. She has 4 boys of her own and helps raise Jackie, a girl that is going into the 10th grade. I feel like this week our MPPC group has bonded a lot and enjoyed each other. I'm sad to leave Pittsburgh, but at the same time--excited to be home.

John Roebuck by Mark Greife

This Pittsburgh Project trip is something I can look back on for years to come. I think I will always remember helping "Roe" out. I will remember his kindness and hospitality the most. His gratitude towards our work was very uplifting when we came across things that were difficult to do. "Roe" is a very wise man that has a reasonable answer to everythign and I will miss him back in Charlotte.

Reflections by Luci Heeseman

God created us each for a purpose and because His love for us is so great we receive unexpected gifts from HIm all the time, but especialy when we are serving HIm and one in tune to HIs presence. In an enviornment like Pittsburgh Project where your soul purpose is to serve God's children with the hands and heart of Christ it is difficult not to feel close to God and recognize at least some of His purpose for your life. My team today: Will, Stephen, Walker, Laura, and Caroline served with the hands of Christ. We provided the bodies and the energy to do much needed yard work for Elaine and Delores, two adult women living in Perry South that are no longer physically able to do the work themselves. However, God's real purpose for each of us was much more than manual labor!!! I am so blessed to be here to worship and serve with MPPC and others from around the country. ---Luci

The Pittsburgh Project

In our group of five (Clara, Sloan, Will, Graves, Nick and Freeman) we met Daniel Carter, the man we plan on assisting this week. He's forty-four and is on disability. We hope to paint the deck, and manicure the yard, but most of all, get to know Daniel better as our brother in Christ.
